Cataract is a situation of blurry vision as a result of lens of the eye losing its clearness which could cause blindness if not cured on time. It is usually seen in elder people. Cataract generally results from inadequate healthy nutrition, unhealthy water and hygiene conditions, desert sand which hits the eye, Right angle solar rays, Congenital cataract, old age and limited health services. Because of technical and material inconveniences, millions of cataract patients lose their opportunity to see. Consequently, they're forced to depend on others in one way or another to accomplish even simplest of their daily life activities. This challenge takes just a 15-minute surgery to be solved.

Backa Community Development Association's cataract project aims to treat eyes of cataract patients and prevent them from blindness which will be a way towards independence and self-reliance. It will also educate local health professionals to increase access and simplify the procedures for permanent solutions of cataract.
