Ethiopia stood 151st in the united nations E-Government development index (2018) out of 193 countries, indicating that the country has been supported by minimal technological advancement. Nevertheless Ethiopia has made ambitious attempt to network it's education system with ICTs. The integration of digital technology in Ethiopia has its own challenge. Digitalization is a costly process that also requires competent human resources and its implementation is affected by several factors. The prime barrier has been the limited knowledge and capacity of teachers and students in the use of digital technology as mentioned by ILO background report on digitalization in teaching and education in Ethiopia.
Backa Community Development Association aims to provide access to digital and practical learning opportunities by establishing a digital lab and incubation center which encompasses a computer lab with internet access, training room with reading space, E-references database, and a workspace with show room. And it also works to build a culture of transformational and technological education options and promoting a digital learning system among stakeholders of the education sector through providing hard and soft skill trainings and awareness creation for students and respective stakeholders, advocating educational sector decision makers and role players towards transformational and technological education approaches and through formation of support and networking groups.
BCDA aims to promote and advocate for digital skill and creativity of young people by 2025.
