Small holder farms predominate in the Ethiopian economy and society and account for over 90% percent of Ethiopia's agricultural production. Draught animal power and hand tool based agricultural mechanization have existed in Ethiopia ever since time immemorial. The country has diverse agroecology ranging from arid to semi-arid, sub-moist to humid and per-humid zones, which is, if utilized properly an abundant resources that could bring about an unshakable food security. The agriculture policy strategies and programs depend on ensuring MDG (Millennium Development Goals) by focusing on specific targets, mechanisms for implementation. This is a clear indication of the government unwavering determination and commitment to win the war against poverty and backwardness in the country at any cost.
Using the existing suitable agricultural policies and strategies of the government, Backa Community Development Association (BCDA) aims to transform small holder farmer's livelihoods through mechanized agricultural production in order to mitigate food insecurity by providing agricultural inputs and enhancing agricultural production and productivity of the farmers.
"BCDA has provided 5 tractors and 6 water pumps for two Ethiopian rural districts."
